Green Prescribing

When you think of a prescription you probably think of a medicine right?
What if a prescription could be to join a walking group, start a cookery course or spend time in nature?

Medicines are important for lots of health conditions but making them, transporting them and disposing of the waste all has an impact on our environment.

Why don’t we change what a prescription means? What if it meant anything that made you feel or live better? Take a look at what we’re prescribing below.

We have some amazing wildlife on the East Yorkshire coast – why not take advantage of getting out into nature and learn some more. Spending time in nature helps to improve our mental health and makes us feel more connected and responsible for the environment around us.

Group walks which are great for keeping you fit and exploring the area.

A community litter picking group run with the support of Scarborough Borough Council- give back to the community and get outdoors. Covered by public liability insurance and free equipment provided. We’ve linked up with the North York Moors National Park Authority and want to let you know the great ways you can get involved: follow walks of different distances according to your ability. Aged 11-17? Try joining their Young Rangers Programme undertake conservation tasks, skills sessions and wildlife surveys. You can also volunteer your time.

We understand that many of the options listed here make assumptions that you are able to manage outdoor activities. We believe that green prescribing is for everyone and encourage you to let us know about any projects that might also be possible for people of different abilities.
